About The Deanes School

Setting Challenges - Achieving Success

"At The Deanes School, every learner is given access to a curriculum rich and varied, challenging and inspiring, which enables all our students to fulfil their potential, to shape their futures and to strive to create a better world."
"My teachers were prepared to put in extra time and effort. This spurred me on, resulting in my taking a Maths degree at Oxford University. I don't think this would have happened without the dedication of the teachers at Deanes."
Former Deanes' student, who went on to SEEVIC and then to Oxford.
"There are a great range of extra-curricular activites you can do at The Deanes. A lot of them are confidence building, such as the Trident Gold Award, which I really enjoyed."

Supporting Success

We believe in encouraging students to reach the highest possible standards. Our highly qualified team of teachers create a learning experience which is varied and challenging. Our students are actively involved with their teachers in setting and achieving realistic but demanding targets. In this way they achieve their academic potential.

As a comprehensive school, we ensure that students of all abilities can develop their many and varied talents to the full. We have a special responsibility for students with physical disabilities within South East Essex. We provide specialist staff and facilities for those with mobility problems. In this way all students have complete access to the curriculum.

History

The Deanes School got its name from its location: it was built on the northern edge of West Wood. During the 16th century West Wood was known as The Deanes Wood because it belonged to the Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral. This land is still owned by the Church of England and is leased to Castle Point District Council. When the school was opened in 1971 the old name for the wood was adopted.
